Friday’s Photo: It’s all in the mix

The secret to creating a room that has life and interest is all in the mix. Furniture that doesn’t all match and wasn’t all purchased at the same store. A mixture of patterns and textures and art work that speaks to you. These are the elements that give a room soul.

The Hampton Show House library, designed by Greg McKenzie, is a perfect example of this. Greg used a masterful mix of different period furniture, textures and patterns. I love the classic knole sofa mixed with the mid century Lucite coffee table, and the two side chairs piped in thick fringe. The chevron fabric from Schumacher, the graphic wallpaper and the Zebra hide rug add some punch to keep the mostly neutral room from being anything but boring.

I think the whole room is fabulous. Don’t you?

Have a great weekend my friends!

love it! you don’t realize right away that it is basically a white, gray and black color scheme because the sofa injects such a great pop of color. love the mix of furniture styles. funny just had a client worried about mixing fabric styles–should show her this room so she can see how different can be totally cohesive.

I agree on all accounts Lori. I could have stayed in that room all day.

The room is fabulous! Perfect mix of elegance, richness and comfort. I want to sit down and wrap myself in the Hermes throw a and read a book. At the same time, I would feel comfortable hosting a cocktail party for sophisticated people like you! Gorgeous!

I love how the designer used layer on top of layer of elegance to achieve this cozy, non-pretentious room. Thank you for posting this Linda. I will keep this for future inspiration for my home.
