It’s been months of speculation, rumors, incorrect reporting (that the color was Monaco Blue)and just plain old confusion as to what Pantone’s highly anticipated Color of the year for 2013 will be. As I wrote about here, Pantone is the top dog in the color predicting space and Pantone’s tradition of designating a Color of the year has become a very big deal to anyone working with or who loves color.
Well the announcement just came down so say goodbye to Tangerine Tango and say hello to Emerald.
Emerald, a vivid, verdant green, enhances our sense of well-being by inspiring insight, as well as promoting balance and harmony. It seems the perfect choice to me and I am so happy to see this color going into 2013.
As a color consultant, one tip I would like to share if you plan to use Emerald on your walls, is be sure to make it the star and surround it with lot’s of neutral (like white) to give the eye a place to rest. Look at this beautiful bathroom with Emerald green walls…stunning.
and this gorgeous bed room. In both photos Emerald is the star and white is used as the grounding neutral.
Emerald also pairs so well with Gray, the new on trend neutral we are seeing so often.
