FINALLY!!!! The Official Pantone Color of 2013 is……..

It’s been months of speculation, rumors, incorrect reporting (that the color was Monaco Blue)and just plain old confusion as to what Pantone’s highly anticipated Color of the year for 2013 will be. As I wrote about here, Pantone is the top dog in the color predicting space and Pantone’s tradition of designating a Color of the year has become a very big deal to anyone working with or who loves color.

Well the announcement just came down so say goodbye to Tangerine Tango and say hello to  Emerald.

Pantone’s Color of the year 2013

Emerald, a vivid, verdant green, enhances our sense of well-being by inspiring insight, as well as promoting balance and harmony. It seems the perfect choice to me and I am so happy to see this color going into 2013.

As a color consultant, one tip I would like to share if you plan to use Emerald on your walls, is be sure to make it the star and surround it with lot’s of neutral  (like white) to give the eye a place to rest. Look at this beautiful bathroom with Emerald green walls…stunning.

and this gorgeous bed room. In both photos Emerald is the star and white is used as the grounding neutral.

Emerald also pairs so well with Gray, the new on trend neutral we are seeing so often.

If you want to bring Emerald green into your home but not sure you want to make such a big commitment here are a few photos to inspire you of ways to  us Emerald Green as an accent color.

Pillows are always a great way to introduce a pop of color.

Love the emerald green as I think it’s not only gorgeous, but also inspiring as in the yellow brick road that leads to the Emerald City. For me this color signals that we’re making good progress towards recovering from a rough patch, and people should feel optimistic about what will happen in 2013.

I’m a lover of green, so embracing emerald is an easy one for me. Really happy to have it brought in with intention… but can we please not besty it with oxblood – that’s way too close to an 80s-90s revival for me! 😉

I’m with you Sheila..that is one color combination I would rather not revisit this time around.

This will be a good challenge; love the pictures, Linda. Great examples! I am seeing it paired with a lot of yellow. I am anxious to see it paired with tints of gray and the other secondary colors: orange and violet (not burgundy!). Although it is a cool color, I think it packs a punch. Fun, fun, fun!
