Friday’s Photo

I’ve had this image over my desk for about a year now. I can’t decide if I love it or if  I am horrified by it.

Love it or not, whatever your opinion, it does what all great art and design should do: it evokes an emotional reaction, makes you think and leaves a lasting impression.

What do you think? Would you let your kids go wild with a black marker on a freshly painted white  wall?

It certainly would start conversations easily enough! And I agree that it invokes emotion – across the spectrum :>

Sherry, I think I would love it for about a week..then I would be sorry I did it. Wouldn’t it be great though for a really contemporary space where you threw a lot of parties?

At first I thought this was a Kelly Wearstler, and so it fit. I love Kelly for her risque creativity and broad range… but when I see it’s another designer, I have a harder time appreciating it. You are so right about the thought provoking intention behind design, and I’ve just been given a little warning to check myself, haven’t I?!

Sheila, I know the Kelly Wearstler image you are referring to. It is her Orange graffiti entrance in her California home. When I saw the black and white stair well I was wondering if Wearstler was inspired by Diamond Baratta or vice versa?

    it’s definitely BRAVE!

Absolutely not. They’d be ‘grounded’ indefinitely, if my kids had ever done this. Maybe even take them for psychological evaluation, LOL. It’s hideous.

Thanks for commenting Leslee, the funny thing is, the designer probably paid an artist thousands of dollars to “scribble” on these walls. Definitely pushing the envelope right???
